This was one of those paintings which comes along only once in a blue moon where everything comes together in the first go around. Robin started this one and Christina finished it. It was that simple. We loved the washy feel to it with the added texture and physicality of the oil stick.

Aerial #5 5" x 7" Christina Pickard & Robin Orbach Starke $100

We liked the topographical quality to this painting, and for that reason opted to include it as an "Aerial." Some of the white paint has a little modeling paste in it--just enough to give it a smooth, gentle texture, as opposed to the sharper, more pronounced texture that you can get with straight modeling paste.

This felt sort of watery and dreamy and still sort of aerial at the same time. We used Golden's high-gloss black for the forms underneath and lots of lovely aqua and blue collaged tissue on top.

Aerial #2 5" x 7" Christina Pickard & Robin Orbach Starke $100

Neither or us has been in a plane where we've seen an aerial landscape like this, full of pinks, magentas, and oranges, but it's in the same series as yesterday which officially makes it an "Aerial."

Today's colors give the painting a sort of post-modern, Candyland-flyover feel to it which of course brings us back to our unexplored ode to 1973 Candyland. Maybe that should happen in the next few weeks.... Spring has always felt very Candyland.
